July 2018 Coral Gables • South Miami • Coconut Grove Edition

For South Floridians the month of July marks the start not just of summer, but of that special time period we know as Hurricane Season. Though most of us have been through a couple of storms, it’s important to remember that hurricanes are more than just an inconvenience, they can be truly devastating to our homes, our families and our communities. As longtime Miami residents (who experienced the wrath of Andrew) we want to encourage all of our readers to take the season seriously, even if that means spending just a few hours to do the bare minimum: create a disaster plan, stock up on essentials and make use of your smartphone to track both the preparations and aftermath. If you don’t know where to start we’re giving you a Cheat Sheet to help better understand the 2018 season.

Elsewhere in the issue we look at some of the amazing students who are making our community proud. From award-winning design talent to world languages, we are proud to spotlight those making a difference within Miami… and beyond. Our Philanthropist this issue continues the trend of kids making a change. Kingston Marley is taking his grandfather’s traditions to a new audience by bringing together the voice and power of his generation to affect change in Jamaica.
