Blue Skies Ahead

Sometimes in the retail business, timing is everything.

After years of successfully running Earthy Chic Boutique in the Design District with her childhood friend & business partner, Priscilla Reyes, Eileen Carrion took some time off in late 2018 to stay home with a new baby. Just eight months later Carrion received a call that reignited her entrepreneurial passions.

“I had called Suniland three years before looking for a space for my previous store, but they had nothing available in the size that I needed,” she says. “And then in August 2019 they finally called with space, totally out of the blue.”

Carrion jumped at the opportunity, launching Indigo Republic with the hopes of becoming the area’s go-to boutique for gifts… both for shopper’s friends and themselves. “It’s a little bit of everything,” she says. “I love to curate different items from around the world. I’m always looking for budget-friendly, unique items that you won’t see anywhere else.”

Carrion is no stranger to keeping an eye toward buying, in addition to her previous store the Miami-native grew up in the business with parents in the jewelry wholesale business selling things like wholesale silver earrings. In fact, Carrion’s first business launched out of necessity when her mother couldn’t find an affordable option for a product she wanted. “I decided to just start making the pieces and it eventually grew into a business,” she says. When Carrion and her business partner began looking into retail space they decided to also expand into a full boutique, adding clothing, handbags and swimwear.

With her new venture, Carrion says the focus is more on finding local brands to showcase, as well as smaller artisans and designers, including on-trend painted hats from Mexico and a selection of shoes from a favorite Greek manufacturer alongside Miami-ready maxi dresses and off-the-shoulder tops. “I still love to bring in great jewelry, I have a lot of dainty sterling silver pieces, layering necklaces,” she says, noting that most items in the shop are under $100. “I also have some beautiful evil eye jewelry and great gift items.”

As Carrion continues to build her new space, shoppers can find previews on the store’s Instagram (@indigorepublicboutique) and website (indigorepublic.net). Says Carrion, “I really want to be that local shop where residents can go when they need a quick gift that’s cute and won’t break the bank.”
